Always remember:

All propaganda, all manipulation of society, always happens by getting at the unread and the unaware first. For those who keep themselves aware of different points of view will ask questions, will present counterpoints, will refute nonsense.

Read your history. Rulers and politicians have always preferred that the masses either stay uneducated - or get educated exactly how they want them to (and there isn't very much difference between these two options).
