I saw Rockstar (2011) sometime last year after years of cajoling by some of my students, and I still can't get over how ridiculous that movie is 🤦:
1. I'm myself an amateur / semi professional musician and know first hand the amount of practice it takes. You don't lounge around outside college, keep acting silly, and suddenly find yourself playing at a pro level. So the entire depiction of Ranbir Kapoor's journey to stardom is an outright bunch of nonsense 😅! Such depictions are misleading and can convey a completely wrong picture to youngsters with real musical dreams and aspirations. If you're not forgetting everything else and practicing for at least 6-8 hours a day, you're not getting anywhere - period.
2. Given how painful the Kashmiri Pandit exodus was, why is a Kashmiri Hindu woman being portrayed as a bimbo with no other interests other than watching porn? What has gone wrong with our movie industry? And what has gone wrong with us that we watch such nonsense?
We the audience need to be way more firm than we are today in refusing to watch junk. Movies that deserve to flop at the box office really ought to flop - no matter who the big names and no matter how hard the advertising!
