I wish someone would make a movie on the Mutiny of 1857 and the subsequent Divide and Rule policy. First the Brits and then politicians and two bit unenlightened religious leaders. This would be one of the most relevant Historical Epics made. Will start sublimating 160 years of polarization!
India-Pakistan-Bangladesh: This was, and should have stayed, one land. The entire clue to why partition happened is in the paragraph above.
As for the first PM, they could have just tossed to choose one from respectable leaders on every side. Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Atheist, Agnostic, ... Who cares? We needed stability, peace, poverty alleviation, education, healthcare, defense, cultural richness. Not meaningless hatred.
And we still need the same things: Stability, peace, poverty alleviation, education, healthcare, defense, cultural richness. Not meaningless hatred.
There are ways to resolve all differences amicably and make this entire geopolitical region stable and steady like a rock. That's our way forward. If we achieve this, this area of the planet will be one of the richest and impossible to challenge.
(Note: As you reflect on the post above, bear in mind that I have supported the present government every time they acted to cancel minority appeasement freebies (Haj Allowance, PM Iftar Parties, Triple Talaaq, Article 370 - Kashmir lost the moral right to ever demand anything in January 1990). But from 2019 to 2024 their speeches and IT Cell actively spread hatred against ordinary Muslim citizens. Not only can this not be allowed, it is fundamentally nonsensical. To understand this better, I invite you to read: Strike a Pause: Why Push Away Muslims? (strike-a-pause.blogspot.com))
