Divided States of India VS United States of America!

Some things are strange...

When partition happened, Bengal got split into East Bengal and West Bengal based on which part of Bengal was "muslim majority" and which "hindu majority". So we already know the danger inherent in clustering ourselves on the basis of religion. Still, we hear of "hindu majority" and "muslim majority" regions within our country today. Why? One of the reasons is muslims not being allowed to rent or buy apartments/houses in some societies. As a result they are often left with no choice left but to cluster together into a muslim majority region. This needs to stop. Any society disallowing people on the basis of religion needs to penalized. [That everyone can live together quite wonderfully is already openly visible in many housing societies. For example, our housing society - National Regency, Panvel, Navi Mumbai - has people of all religions, everyone's children play together in the evening, everyone celebrates Independence Day and Republic Day together, and everyone has full freedom to practice their faith. There is simply no problem!]

That's the first thing. Moving on:

East Bengal went ahead and renamed itself Bangladesh. Now West Bengal is a state in the Eastern part of India 😏! That doesn't fit 😏! I think it should just be Bengal.

In fact, going a step further:

This concept of Gujarat for Gujaratis, Bengal for Bengalis, Karnataka for Kannadigas, Tamil Nadu for Tamilians, Punjab for Punjabis... - doesn't this foster regionalism? Why encourage this? Why not just consolidate our identity as Indians? Why not rename our states to reduce regionalism and promote nationalism? Consider for example: Maharashtra and Kerala; sure we have a majority of Marathis and Malayalees in these states respectively - but the names of the states themselves are not "locked into" Marathi and Malayalam, they have stayed open to welcoming everyone. I think that's the right spirit.

As I often remark, the USA is United States of America; while we are increasingly becoming Divided States of India...
