NIRF Rankings Don't Convey The Full Truth: Example 2

Here's the 2023 NIRF University ranking by MHRD: MoE, National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) (nirfindia.org)

No. 32: Symbiosis International.

Here's the 2023 NIRF Research ranking by MHRD: MoE, National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) (nirfindia.org)

Symbiosis International is not even in the top 50!

Ask yourselves: How is it that a university that can't even find itself in the top 50 for research sits pretty at 32 overall? If a university is not vibrant in research, how in the world will it impart the spirit of innovation and discovery to its students?

These questions are important. We are choosing universities for our children based on accreditations and rankings. And there are just too many things not adding up when I take a closer look.

We need to scrutinize rankings carefully and every single suspicious entry needs to be investigated. I would start with how many times which honourable minister visits the university. (I also often hear that money exchanges are a part of the game but till I have evidence for something I cannot point a finger.)

PS: Even the 32nd national rank is with a score of just 53.13/100. As I often say, we need to start classifying universities as 1st tier (> 65/100), 2nd tier (50/100 - 65/100) and 3rd tier (40/100 - 50/100). Universities scoring less than 40/100 have to be classified as "Unfit to be ranked." That would be more truthful than just giving ranks as a high rank with a low score means nothing.

(The same group has recently started a new university called Symbiosis Skills and Professional University. I'm sorry but what else have universities been doing for the last several centuries? Every university imparts skills and prepares students for a professional career for heaven's sake! Then why this drama? I believe at least part of the answer lies in the post above.)
