TRIPE (Definition): Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011)

A question I was asked recently: Which, in my opinion, is the worst movie made by mainstream bollywood (what an unimaginative cringeworthy name) in recent times?

My response: It's difficult to define one movie as THE worst, but quite certainly one that would be a strong contender for this title is Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011).

There is not a single, not one, poor person visible in the entire movie! The whole movie is just a bunch of rich, spoilt, immature adults blowing up money on luxury. And if our ordinary conception of living a wasteful life is not enough, we are introduced to festivities wherein tonnes and tonnes of perfectly eatable tomatoes are stomped upon and thrown around for fun! As if world hunger were an imaginary construct!

And all this is glorified as "being cool".

That in a country where millions are struggling to put even three meals a day in their stomachs!

How do we even give a second look to people who make such movies, those who act in them, compose music for them, support such utter tripe in any which way!

Let's aim at becoming a more sensitive and sensible world. Just existing for fashion and splurging resources thoughtlessly is not life. Existence becomes life only when we give meaning to it.
