Centres of knowledge (Universities, Colleges and Schools) are not to keep doing what the market tells them to do. That way society evolves simply on profit-loss considerations (which isn't really evolution).
It's the other way: Knowledge, Values and Reason need to guide the products and services coming into the market, the prices at which they do and the rate at which they do. That takes us in the direction of sustainable evolution and a fulfilled humanity.

Just consider the mess we are in and consider the above again.
