(Date and University Name Removed)
It resembled the kind of political rallies that no one really likes or appreciates very much. Too little grace and too much hoo haa kind of stuff.
This is an example of an elite academic institute starting to resemble the society out there.
What should instead happen is exactly the opposite:
We need to hold to high standards and the society out there needs to start resembling us. We need to be the trendsetters, not followers.
Would have been good to see the following arrangement:
Students arrive at the auditorium. All candidates go on stage one by one from the green room and systematically and logically explain what positive changes they would bring if elected and how. They could even use ppt presentations if needed. At the end of every presentation, about a 15 minutes question answer session wherein students could seek clarifications.
Everyone listens, thinks clearly, and goes and votes tomorrow.
Plain. Simple. Dignified. Effective.
Do you see what I'm saying?
Comments from students:
1. When the power of love overcomes the love of power,
then only great things can happen!!
Sadly, the institutes and the students have
accepted the mediocrity of the situation. All the institutes now a days are
doing is eradicate free & rational thinking.
It's just a pity!!
2. And it is funny, and disgusting at the same time, to
see the "nation's brightest minds" dividing their peers on the basis of region and
department.
If someone is from my region or my department then why is voting for him/her blindly the right thing to do? The institute's best interests should obviously be foremost in my mind and guide my decision!
