IIT Bombay prohibits students from using personal motor vehicles on campus.

This is a 100% correct decision and I hope that other campuses do this as well.
The issue often gets confused with the question "Well, if professors and staff members can use their vehicles, why can't students?"
The answer to this question is quite straightforward: Because professors and staff members are at a different stage of their lives. They are working professionals with an entirely different set of constraints in which they have to function.
Student strengths are just too large to allow them vehicles. I have seen it myself, campuses become traffic heavy and it just isn't tenable.
Get a bicycle 😊! It takes no more than about 3 minutes per km on a bicycle. So we are talking about cycling for 10 minutes at the most from anywhere to anywhere in the campus. It's nothing 😊. (Plus it's good for you!).
And for students who are unwell or have a disability, shuttles are provided : use them by all means.
Very happy to see movement in this direction. It's good for everyone.
