Modern Day Gurukuls

There are obviously some bad apples in the teaching community and we certainly need mechanisms to identify and remove them. But bearing that in mind, here's a suggestion:

Suppose in the modern context we define a "Residential Gurukul" as: "Boarding School (Class 7 to Class 12) + Residential Undergraduate Studies (4 Years)" [of course with flexibility to move to better Gurukuls based on performance].

I think we need to invoke a system like that if we are to create a better tomorrow for our country. Parents enroll their children around the age of eleven (Class 7) and trust the teachers and professors (Gurus) to mold their characters and provide education in various subjects as per necessity and interests for the next ten years. Students live a life of Brahmacharya and focus on nothing else but their studies and extra curricular activities. They graduate at the age of twenty one and can then step into the world to pursue their career (or study further!), explore various aspects of life, different cultures, and live a fulfilling life.

If we start moving in this direction, I think we'll see a society that has some character, some personality, some excellence and brilliance, in a few decades.

If not, just forget about it. As of now we are simply rolling downhill and falling apart in every sense.

As of today: In many schools and colleges teachers are good in their subjects but there is no discipline. The words discipline and disciple are related. Without discipline, there is no possibility of being a disciple. And if you aren't a disciple, there is no possibility of enrichment in knowledge.

Many a parent don't help this situation either! I personally know teachers and faculty members who have been stopped from doing their duties because parents interfere.

There are obviously some good sensible folks stepping out from colleges into society - but the percentage is too small to have a substantial positive impact. By and large students completely dissipate, lose focus, and become insincere citizens by the time college is over. Which is tragic, because life is just starting then.

I refer you back to the start of this post. We need to invoke the concept of Residential Gurukuls focused on all around education of students : character development + education in various subjects and skills based on necessity and interests + extra curricular activities.
