The Filter Of Intelligence

Here's some sage advice I received from a very wise saint once:

So many thoughts may come to the mind. But before any thought is expressed in words, put a filter in between. Look at the thought carefully, understand its impact on the person you are speaking to, on others who might be around and listening at the time. And only and only if you feel the thought is worth expressing, should you speak it out.

Else, hold back, stay silent. Dignified silence is always far better than unnecessary talk.

Or reconsider what you wish to say and find a better expression. Then express yourself.

This process of filtering thoughts and speaking and acting consciously and intelligently is your personality, your intelligence.

Without this capability, there's little chance of a life lived wisely.
