The Need For Fact Checking In Our Entertainment Industry

Saw the movie Ghoomer last night. Within the first few minutes you have a physics teacher making the following statement in class:

"force on the body is the vector sum of the pressure x the area around the body"

This has got to be ILLEGAL 😂!

On a serious note though: We really need to stop making complete fools of ourselves like this! It's bad enough we couldn't even come up with an original name for our movie industry (Hollywood - Bollywood - Tollywood - Mollywood : do you see a pattern here?) we can at least have our scripts fact checked before shooting movies and tv series!

Sports of the Primates

Some sports require skill, are beautiful to watch.

But athletics I just don't understand! How long are we going to stay at the level of the primates, thump our chests like guerrillas and chimpanzees, and go: Aaooo Aaooo Aooooo...I can jumppa the highestta, I can run the fasttesta, ... aaooo aaooo aaooooo...

Then of course there's boxing: I can bash your facce with my fistssa... aaooo aaooo aaooooo...

[PS-1: And consider this for a moment: With all our knowledge of material science, we still play cricket with a ball that can, and does, kill! And the cricketing guerrillas and chimpanzees go: Aaooo Aaooo Aooooo...I can breakka your headdaa, ... aaooo aaooo aaooooo...

PS-2: Football (soccer) is of course not to be left behind in anything, including earning disgrace! Ask yourself: When was the last time you watched a game free of deliberate fouls? And what is that teaching our next generation? That it is ok to trip, push or shove someone when you aren't good enough to win on merit?]

The field of sports needs a serious reconsideration! It needs to come to terms with the fact that we are now in the year 2024 AD.

Registering For DND (Do Not Disturb)

The whole concept of registering one's number for DND (Do Not Disturb) is upside down.

When we get a cell number, by default we should not be disturbed by telemarketers. Those who want to receive telemarketing calls should register themselves on a "calls permitted during these time slots" list.

I say this because I'm convinced a majority of us want to stay focused on our work through the day. Right now the situation is disastrous! You get disturbed while working by call centre employees wanting to sell you products and services or wanting you to fill out feedback forms for stuff you've bought (for which you get an email anyway!).

Why is it ok for us to allow people in a whole range of professions to be disturbed and distracted just so that some businessman somewhere can increase his sales? Why isn't productivity at work important to us as a nation?

Beware Of Emotional Vampires!

Here's a free emotional well being tip based on my life experiences. Maybe it'll be useful for some of you too:

You will likely meet people in life who I classify as Emotional Vampires (or Emotional Parasites if that phrase makes more sense). Here's how you identify them:

Every single time they need emotional support, or a shoulder to cry on, or someone to offload their stress, they will warm up to you and draw as much energy as they need from you. And the minute they're done, the minute they feel better, they're done with you, the "warm spirit of friendship" they came to you with evaporates; you've served your purpose, satisfied their need, and will be brought back to the level of just another acquaintance who has a very measured right to their time till they need someone emotionally once again; then they'll be back to draw more. There's no sense of gratefulness and no friendship consolidates. It's always a one way street.

Keep such people at bay. Life is only dishing out to them what they dish out to others. Let them go through their "anguish" by themselves till they realise that people are not expendable and friendship is always a two way street.

Be good, not stupid. Be useful, but don't allow anyone to use and throw you. Friendship is a beautiful and sacred thing - don't waste it on those who don't genuinely care about you. Be wise - choose your friends carefully.

Saraswati and Lakshmi

Of all the Gods, Goddesses and Divine Beings, our first obeisance is always to Mother Saraswati, the bestower of Knowledge.

For without Knowledge, where is honest wealth even?

It is said that Saraswati and Lakshmi are sisters and Lakshmi frolics joyfully hiding behind Saraswati. Only when Saraswati enters your being does Lakshmi reveal herself.

(And no, corrupt ill-gotten wealth at the expense of others' oppression is no manifestation of Lakshmi. Such wealth brings no peace, no fulfillment, no sacredness. It simply destroys you bit by bit.)

When Gautam Buddha Left In Search Of Enlightenment

Gautam Buddha has been so deeply misunderstood as someone who "abandoned" his family! Here's the point to realize: His leaving home in search for enlightenment was an event at a point when he *wasn't* enlightened! And upon attaining enlightenment, he came right back! In fact, his wife and parents became his initial disciples!

He was restless for truth and felt that the best possible shot he had at discovering it was to be on his own. You and I may feel differently, but we are not talking about you and I. We are talking about Siddhartha and need to understand him from his perspective!

His family was certainly well provided for. Perhaps fearing that he would be unable to leave when everyone was awake, he simply left a note and slipped away in the middle of the night when everyone was asleep.

How many of us are restless for truth and enlightenment to start with? Let's first get there, make these our highest priorities, then we can always decide on a path that we feel will be best for us.

The Most Auspicious Time, The Best Shubh Muhurat

Here's sharing some precious wisdom I once received from a friend:

Whatever it is you want to do with your life, or if there is something important that you know you need to do, the best time to start working on it is right now. There is no other or more auspicious time to wait for. This moment, right now, is the most auspicious time to start, is the best Shubh Muhurat.
